Pathological liar vs gutless fraud
The most depressing election campaign in my 50 years of politically active life
I can’t remember any previous time when I’ve been in unqualified agreement with Chris Uhlmann, but his description of the current election campaign as a policy-free contest between “a pathological liar, which is what the Labor Party seems to be calling the government, and a gutless fraud, which is what the Prime Minister essentially has dubbed you," Of the two, I’ll give the higher preference to the gutless fraud, after ranking all acceptable candidates ahead of them, starting with the Greens.
To preserve my mental health, I’m going to refrain from any further commentary about the major parties. I may offer some comments on the Greens, the only party putting forward any serious policy proposals in this election, some of which I support and some I question.
Feel free to try and dissuade me. In particular, if anyone can make a better case for Albanese and Labor than “not Morrison and the LNP”, I’d be glad to read it.
And having sworn off election commentary, I’ll do my best to give you something interesting to keep your minds off the whole sorry process.
I won't try to dissuade you. Cultivate a healthy disdain for all of them. They are mere courtiers of the oligarchs.
It seems like a bizarre state of affairs. But I'm afraid to say, it's just the system taking itself to the logical conclusion.
Nothing is what it seems:
The Prime Minister is a bully and a fake and mostly into advertising and incompetent at those things and most others.
Albanese is goaded into calling himself not 'Woke'. About as useful as declaring yourself not to be a Nazi after someone calls you a Nazi? And of all the people to emulate/admire, it's John W. Howard...
So basically, Albanese is John Howard's eyebrows, the guy who had children thrown overboard (but just kidding!), who had his core and non-core promises, who had his alternative facts to the 'black armband' view of history, whose greatest achievements in government (so he said himself) was that they had 'contained wage costs', ie. kept your wages from rising for a decade or more. And this is the guy who committed Australia to invading Iraq and Afghanistan.
Apart from that, yeah, Howard's a friggin' genius. Knock yourself out buddy.
