I’ve recently opened paid subscriptions, with the idea that I can use the proceeds to pay for my subscriptions to other Substacks. In our fallen times, that’s as close as I can get to the free exchange of the early 2000s, much smaller, blogosphere.
As I’ve stated, free subscribers get full access to all my newsletters. But as a special reward for paid subscribers, I'm inviting you to nominate additional substacks that deserve a paid subscription from me. Comments on this post will be limited to paid subscribers.
Here’s a progress report. 28 generous readers have subscribed, yielding payments of $1545 so far. On the other side of the balance, I’ve taken out paid subscriptions to:
Age of Invention
Brad DeLong's Grasping Reality
Dan Davies - "Back of Mind"
digressionsimpressions’s Substack
Drezner’s World
The Future of Everything
Graphs about Religion
Noahpinion
Notes from the Middleground
Unpopular Front
Volts
with a total cost of $939. So, I have a bit over $600 left, which (on average) should be enough to pay for six or seven new subscriptions.
Timothy Snyder.
Good to hear you have so many subs and good to hear you’re churning that back into the blogosphere. What about chart book by Adam Tooze? I am not sure what subscribers get over and above the content he makes available for free. It does add up. I see things all the time that look interesting, but you only have so much money.
